Today Israeli forces carried out a brief incursion into the occupied West Bank city of Jenin, Reuters reported and BTA. According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, quoted by the official Palestinian news agency Wafa, seven Palestinians, including a doctor, were killed in the operation and nine people were injured.

The Israeli army said that the target of the operation was Palestinian fighters and that several gunmen were shot dead. So far, there are no reports of Israeli casualties.

Among the Palestinians killed was a surgeon, the head of the government hospital in Jenin said, adding that he was shot near the hospital.

The West Bank is among the territories Israel seized during the Six-Day War in 1967. Palestinians want the area to become the center of an independent Palestinian state. US-initiated talks on a two-state solution to the decades-old conflict failed in 2014.
