Under the leadership of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, a drill was conducted to firing 600 mm rockets from "oversized" rocket launchers for volley fire, the KCTA agency reported this morning, quoted by BTA.

North Korea fired at least 10 short-range ballistic missiles off its east coast yesterday, Reuters reported, citing the South Korean military. The military in Seoul called it a possible demonstration for prospective buyers, including Russia.

Artillery units successfully hit the target on an island located about 365 km away, and the North Korean leader watched the exercise from the launch pad, KCTA added today.

Kim Jong-un also called for the readiness of the country's nuclear forces to carry out the mission of war deterrence, as well as to take the initiative in the event of war, the message also said.

"The fiery rains of destruction" during the exercise, they showed North Korea's will to defend its sovereignty and react against the enemy, said a later release in English by the North Korean Central Command about the event.

Yesterday's launch using ballistic missile technology was condemned by the US State Department as reckless and in violation of multiple UN Security Council resolutions, Reuters notes.
