Former US President Donald Trump yesterday urged evangelicals to vote en masse in the November presidential election to help him to win, promising "furious" to protect religious freedom if elected, BTA reported.

„Evangelicals and Christians, they don't vote as (massively) as they should,”, the right-wing candidate said in a Washington hotel to hundreds of participants in the “Faith and Freedom” coalition conference.

„They go to church every Sunday, but they don't vote. We have to make it so that they vote, just this once,”, he said. “After four years you don't have to vote, okay? After four years don't vote, I don't care”, he half-heartedly added, drawing laughter from the audience.

The billionaire has assured evangelicals, who played an important role in his rise to power in 2016 and many of whom are very loyal to him, that he will defend their faith.

He has already allowed them to win a historic victory on abortion by appointing three conservative justices to the Supreme Court, the institution that will eventually in 2022 overturn the federal guarantee of termination of pregnancy.

„We will protect Christians in our schools, in our military, in our administration, in our workplaces, in our hospitals,” Trump said.

„We will also create a new federal institution to combat anti-Christian prejudice”, whose purpose will be to investigate “discrimination” and “the pursuit” of Christians in the United States, he stated.

The former president confirmed that the Democratic camp of his rival, the current head of state Joe Biden, sought to “silence“ and “demoralize“ the Christians.

“They don't want you to vote, so you have to vote,” said Donald Trump. “If you vote, we cannot lose.“

The crowd responded with chants of “Vote, vote, vote”, cheering Trump.

Donald Trump will face Joe Biden in a televised debate next Thursday, four months before the US presidential election, France Press recalls.
