Orbán scares Europe with his role as a peacemaker

The Hungarian Prime Minister's visits to Russia, Ukraine and China have caused concern in the West

In European capitals, concern is growing about the role of peacemaker that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán ascribes to himself during his visits to Russia, Ukraine and China, BNR reported.

The delegation of an unnamed EU member state has requested that the issue be discussed at Wednesday's regular meeting of the Permanent Representatives Committee.

On July 1, Hungary took over the rotating presidency of the Council of the EU for 6 months, and this is what worries the countries of the union.

Orbán made these visits in the last few days. It should be clear that Orbán is acting without an EU mandate, but only on behalf of his country, according to EU diplomats. Instead, however, he deliberately introduced even greater ambiguity by publicly displaying the Hungarian presidency logo during his meetings, they added.
