Today, the Hungarian Minister for European Affairs, Janos Boka, in a speech to the participants of a meeting of the European Economic and Social Committee in Brussels, stated that Hungary fully supports the EU's common position on the war in Ukraine. At the meeting, the goals of the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the EU until the end of the year were discussed, quoted by BTA.
In his words, the Hungarian Presidency strives to make progress in providing long-term support to the Ukrainian side in the framework of the G-7 decisions, as well as on Ukraine's path to the EU. The task of the presidency is to work for peace and security in Europe, to cooperate sincerely with the European institutions, Boca said.
Hungary fully supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as the common European position that Russia is the aggressor and Ukraine is the attacked country, he added. Boca noted that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán made his first trip as EU Council President to Kyiv. Budapest and Kyiv noted that this is a new page in bilateral relations, the minister added.
According to him, Budapest works for progress towards the EU and the countries of the Western Balkans, according to the merits of each of these countries. The minister pointed out that another of the goals of the presidency is to limit illegal migration and increase the number of returned migrants who arrived in violation of the rules. According to him, Budapest is looking for European answers to the challenges facing farmers and competitiveness, and will work to expand European military production on the basis of joint public procurement.
