Participants in the campaign rally of former US President Donald Trump in the state of Pennsylvania saw a gunman on a roof and alerted the police about him two minutes before the shots were fired, the New York Times reported. The American daily published a video recorded by an eyewitness, BTA reported.

The footage shows protesters pointing at a man lying on the roof of the white building where Trump was eventually attacked. Some of them are also heard on the footage trying to attract the attention of the security officers. According to the "New York Times" the video was taken at 6:09 p.m. Saturday local time - exactly two minutes before the gunshots were heard.

The video also shows a police officer approaching the scene, but it's unclear whether he heard the warnings from witnesses or already knew the potential shooter was on the roof. In addition, three parked police cars can be seen in the parking lot next to the building from whose roof he fired. It has not yet been established whether there were any police officers in them.

Former US President Donald Trump survived an assassination attempt on Saturday at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Trump, who will be the Republican Party's presidential nominee in November, was slightly wounded in the right ear and was quickly taken from the rally stage by Secret Service agents. As a result of the shooting, a person who took part in the rally died, and two more were injured.

The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) took over the investigation into the case and said it was an attempted murder. The 20-year-old gunman was killed by Secret Service agents seconds after firing several shots with an assault rifle at a Trump rally. Heads of state and government leaders from around the world condemned the assassination attempt against the former American president.
