Austrian Minister of the Interior Gerhard Karner wants to return migrants to Afghanistan and Syria again, the Austrian news agency APA reported today, quoted by BTA.

Last year, a total of 3.7 million euros was spent on deporting migrants. Individual deportations in particular become a financial burden - for a joint mission to transfer three people to Colombia and one to the Dominican Republic, for example, 60,600 euros were spent.

Deporting 22 people to Iraq last year cost a total of €303,000. The biggest burden on the country's finances are deportations to countries outside Europe, but even within Europe, deportations are not cheap. A total of 425,000 euros was spent to send 58 people back to Bulgaria.

This is important because the majority of successful deportations take place within the EU, the APA points out.

The list of those who voluntarily returned to their countries last year should serve as an argument for the Ministry of Internal Affairs - 101 people chose to return to Syria, and 39 - to Afghanistan.

Recently, the Constitutional Court declared that it is permissible to send people back to Afghanistan in individual cases, as there is some stabilization of the situation under the Taliban regime. Karner would also like to send people back to safe areas in Syria again.
