A Ukrainian military commander believes that a “turning point” is approaching on the front in Ukraine. and Kiev will sit at the negotiating table with Vladimir Putin, UNIAN agency reported.
„Sooner or later there will have to be negotiations with Russia. Today, that moment has not yet come, but there will be negotiations. This turning point will happen sometime in the fall or winter of this year”, said the military expert and former commander of the “Aidar” battalion. Yevgeny Dikiy in front of "Espresso" TV.
Dikiy believes that the moment for talks between Kiev and Moscow will be ripe when it becomes clear to everyone, including the Kremlin, that time is working in Ukraine's favor and the situation for the Russian army is getting worse.
According to experts, however, in this way, Ukraine may make a fatal mistake, because negotiations with Vladimir Putin will mean giving up occupied territories. Moreover, there are no guarantees that Russia will not attack again in a few years, when it has gathered enough strength again.
For months, the initiative on the front was in the hands of the Russian occupiers, but now there are indications that it is turning, because Kiev is already receiving new Western weapons, and in addition, Ukraine is mobilizing many new military personnel. Their exact number is kept a state secret, but they are expected to reinforce the front soon.
Kiev's official position on the issue remains extremely unclear. President Volodymyr Zelensky had signed a decree prohibiting Ukrainian officials from negotiating with the Russian aggressor, but in recent days Ukraine has openly stated that it is open to negotiations. Ukraine is ready for peace negotiations with Russia, but exclusively on the basis of international law. Zelensky's advisor said this in an interview with NV – Mihailo Podoliak.
Moscow, for its part, said that negotiations without Russia are impossible. In addition, the Kremlin clearly states that it will not withdraw its army from the occupied lands (nearly 1/5 of the territory of Ukraine), and Kiev and the Western countries must take into account the “new reality”.
