An Israeli air strike today killed at least five people in the town of Tubas on West Bank, Palestinian emergency services said, as Israeli security forces continue their operation, which the military says is aimed at Iran-backed armed groups, Reuters reported, BTA reported.
The Palestinian Red Cross said rescue teams found five bodies at the site of the strike. The Israeli military confirmed the strike, which it said hit an armed group, but did not provide further details.
Entrances and exits to the city of Tubas were blocked and Israeli military equipment, including earthmoving machines and armored personnel carriers, were seen in the city, which is located near the border with Jordan in the northern West Bank.
Israeli forces have been conducting a number of operations in the northern West Bank for the past two weeks, including sustained raids and searches in Tubas, Jenin and Tulkarm. In all three cities, there is a strong presence of armed groups, including "Hamas", "Islamic Jihad" and "Fatah", according to Reuters. Fierce clashes between Israeli forces and Palestinian fighters were reported, with extensive damage to streets and infrastructure in the three cities.
