Relatives of Black Lives Matter protester killed in Seattle to receive $6 million VIDEO

It must be paid by the driver who hit the victim, the court ruled

A jury in the American city of Seattle yesterday ruled that the driver of the car that struck and killed a female Black Lives Matter protester on an interstate highway closed to traffic, must pay her family $6 million in compensation, the Associated Press reported, citing BTA.

The same King County jury in Washington state found that the state was not negligent in the death of the protester, reported the "Seattle Times".

24-year-old Summer Taylor was struck and killed by an oncoming vehicle on Interstate 5 in Seattle during protests in July 2020. Another protester was seriously injured.

Taylor's family has launched a lawsuit against the state of Washington, saying authorities failed to take adequate precautions to protect protesters on an interstate bridge. The driver, 30-year-old Dawit Kelliet, was sentenced in September 2023 to 6 1/2 years in prison for vehicular manslaughter and other charges.
