Venezuela Temporarily Recalls Its Ambassador to Spain VIDEO

Spanish Ambassador Summoned to Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Caracas

The Venezuelan government temporarily recalled its ambassador to Spain for consultations yesterday and summoned the Spanish Ambassador to Venezuela to appear today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Caracas, reported Reuters, quoted by BTA, referring to a statement from the department.

The agency notes that with this the diplomatic conflict between the two countries is growing.

In a post on the messaging platform "Telegram" Venezuelan Foreign Minister Ivan Hill cited the "impertinent, interventionist and rude" comments of the Spanish Minister of Defense Margarita Robles Fernandez as a motive for his step.

According to the Venezuelan media, earlier yesterday Robles Fernandez called the Venezuelan administration a "dictatorship".

Hill said he has temporarily recalled Venezuela's ambassador to Spain, Gladys Gutierrez, for consultations, while summoning Spain's ambassador to the country, Ramon Santos, to appear today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Caracas.

Also yesterday, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez met former Venezuelan opposition presidential candidate Edmundo Gonzalez in Madrid, a day after the lower house of Spain's parliament voted to symbolically recognize Gonzalez as the winner of Venezuela's disputed presidential election.
