The prosecutor's office in the Sicilian city of Palermo asked for six years in prison for the Italian minister of infrastructure and deputy prime minister, as well as leader of the “League” Matteo Salvini in the case of refusal to allow a ship with migrants to Italian territory, reported ANSA, quoted by BTA.

The case is due to the fact that Salvini, in his capacity as Minister of the Interior five years ago, during the first government of Giuseppe Conte, did not allow the ship of the Spanish non-governmental organization “Open Arms” with 147 migrants on board to dock on the Italian island of Lampedusa.

In court today, Salvini stated that if he had to, he would repeat his actions from a few years ago. He did not allow the ship to dock as part of tough measures against the flow of migrants and humanitarian organizations rescuing migrants in the Mediterranean. In court in Palermo today, Salvini said he was proud to defend Italy's borders.
