Denmark is considering lifting its 40-year ban on nuclear power development as part of efforts to strengthen national energy security. This was announced by Energy Minister Lars Aagaard, quoted by Reuters, BTA reports.
The government will conduct an analysis of the potential benefits of new technologies in the sector, with a detailed report expected by 2026.
„We are seeing progress in the development of new nuclear technologies - especially small modular reactors. But the potential alone is not enough. We need to understand what their introduction would mean for Danish society,” Aagaard explained.
The minister categorically rejected the possibility of returning to traditional nuclear technologies, which Denmark officially banned in 1985. According to him, the country remains committed to its current energy transition strategy, based mainly on solar and wind energy - the cheapest and fastest path to sustainable development.
