France files lawsuit against Iran over two of its citizens who spent over 1,000 days in detention VIDEO

Jacques Paris and Cecile Kohler accused of espionage by Tehran authorities

France has filed a lawsuit against Iran at the International Court of Justice for violations of the rights of two French citizens imprisoned in the Islamic Republic.

The text published by the court notes that, according to Paris, these are "serious and systematic violations" of the rights of French citizens, including in the context of the arrest and detention in Iran of two Frenchmen - Jacques Paris and Cecile Kohler. On this basis, the French side accuses Tehran of violating the provisions of the 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations.

On April 2, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot announced Paris's intention to take action through the UN and the EU in connection with the detention of Paris and Kohler. According to him, the French citizens were in custody for more than 1,000 days. They were detained in Iran on charges of espionage.
