Former US ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink, who resigned in April, said she left the post because she disagreed with US President Donald Trump's foreign policy, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

Brink served as ambassador to Ukraine from May 2022 until her departure last month. She first outlined the reasons for her departure in an article published today by the "Detroit Free Press".

In the author's article, Brink criticized Trump for putting pressure on Ukraine, not Russia.

"I respect the president's right and responsibility to determine US foreign policy – with appropriate checks and balances by the US Congress," she said.

"Unfortunately, the policy since the beginning of the Trump administration has been to put pressure on the victim - Ukraine, instead of the aggressor - Russia," Brink added, saying that this was the reason for her resignation.

"Peace at all costs is not peace - "It's a policy of concessions," said Brink, a longtime diplomat.

She took a public stand in support of Ukraine during the administration of Trump's pro-Kiev predecessor, Joe Biden.

After the Republican took office in January 2025, promising to quickly end the war, Brink's public statements became far more neutral.

In April, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky openly criticized her for what he said was a lack of decisiveness in his response to the Russian missile strike on the city of Kryvyi Rih, which killed 20 people, 9 of whom were children.

A few days later, a State Department spokesman announced that Brink was resigning.
