The voter turnout in the second round of the presidential elections in Romania as of 4:00 p.m. is 47.09%, according to data from the Permanent Electoral Authority.
Over 8.5 million Romanians have already exercised their right to vote, or almost two million more than in the first round on May 4, BTA specifies.
“If the voting pace remains the same, we will approach 65 percent voter turnout, probably even more”, commented the director of the INSCOP sociological agency in Romania, Remus Ștefuriac, quoted by Digi24.
Against this backdrop, the Romanian Ministry of Interior announced that the police had received about 60 reports of incidents related to voting. Twelve are under review, and seven have been referred to the Central Electoral Bureau and the Permanent Electoral Authority, according to a press release sent to the BTA editorial office.
On Thursday (May 15), the group "Renew Europe" raised the alarm over allegations of bias in TikTok's algorithm ahead of the second round of the presidential election in Romania and called on the European Commission to urgently investigate the social network's behavior under the Digital Services Act (DSA).
