A man has been detained in Denmark on suspicion of buying drones to be used by the Palestinian Islamist movement "Hamas" for a terrorist attack, the Danish Security and Intelligence Service said, as quoted by Agence France-Presse.
"The person purchased drones intended for use by "Hamas" during a terrorist attack at an unspecified location in Denmark or abroad," said Fleming Dreyer, head of intelligence operations at the Danish Security and Intelligence Service.
The court today ordered the man to remain in pre-trial detention until June 11.
The case dates back to a police operation in which a terrorist attack was prevented in December 2023. Arrest warrants were issued for six people at that time. Among them was the 28-year-old man arrested today. He has been described by the press as a figure in organised crime in Copenhagen.
The suspect was then extradited from Lebanon, where he had been staying in connection with another double murder case.
The Danish Security and Intelligence Service said in a statement that it and the prosecution believed the man was a key member of a banned group and had links to "Hamas", the statement said.
Danish intelligence has repeatedly said that the war in Gaza has had an impact on the terrorist threat in the Scandinavian country, AFP recalls. It "could give rise to a number of spontaneous or premeditated reactions, including terrorist attacks," according to the intelligence.
