Trump: Our billion-dollar intervention in Ukraine is a disgrace. This should have remained a European conflict

I'm not tightening sanctions on Russia yet because there's a chance of reaching an agreement, the American president said

US President Donald Trump said he is not tightening sanctions on Russia because there's a chance of reaching an agreement in Ukraine.

„I think there's a chance of doing something. If we do that, we could make things even worse", Trump noted. But he did not rule out that „there could come a time when that will happen“.

The US should not have intervened in the Ukrainian conflict, which should have remained a European problem, Trump added.

„I think something will happen. And if not, I'll just step back and they'll have to continue without us. This was a European situation. It should have remained European, but we intervened because the previous administration was firmly convinced that we should be involved. And we were much more committed than Europe in terms of money and everything that we gave,“, the president said.

"We have allocated record amounts to a foreign country. There has never been anything like this: both weapons and money. Europe has also given a lot, but it does not come close to what we have provided. We have allocated, perhaps, almost three times more. And this is just a disgrace. This whole story is a disgrace,", the president added.

Since the beginning of hostilities, the United States has allocated more than $ 180 billion for Ukraine.
