Finance ministers and central bank governors of the G7 countries - the group of the world's leading economies - decided that Russian assets under their jurisdiction will remain frozen until the end of the war in Ukraine. This was reported by the Ukrainian agency “Ukrinform“, referring to the final communiqué of the forum, BTA reports.

The Group of Seven includes the United States, Canada, Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy and Japan. The meeting was held in the Canadian city of Banff, in the province of Alberta.

“We reaffirm, in accordance with our legal norms, that sovereign Russian assets under our jurisdiction will remain frozen until Russia ceases its aggression and compensates Ukraine for the damage caused“, the document states.

The ministers also expressed their support for efforts to achieve a ceasefire. “If a ceasefire is not agreed, we will continue to explore additional options, including increasing pressure through new sanctions“, the communiqué adds.

“Ukrinform“ recalls that Ukrainian Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko also participated in the meeting.
