Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba discussed diplomacy, security and tariffs with Donald Trump

The conversation comes against the backdrop of upcoming trade talks between the two countries and ahead of the G-7 summit in Calgary

Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba said today that he had a 45-minute phone conversation with US President Donald Trump, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

According to him, the two leaders discussed topics in the field of diplomacy, security and customs policy. Ishiba expressed hope for a personal meeting with Trump during the upcoming G-7 summit, which will be held from June 15 to 17 in the Canadian city of Calgary.

The phone conversation comes at a key moment - the chief Japanese negotiator on issues related to tariffs on Japanese exports to the US, Ryosei Akazawa, is leaving for Washington for a new round of trade talks, Reuters also specified.
