Palestinians condemn Israel's plans to establish 22 settlements in the West Bank

The presidential spokesman called on the US authorities to "immediately and seriously intervene"

The plans approved by the Israeli government to build 22 new Jewish settlements in the West Bank constitute a challenge to international law and lead to a dangerous escalation of tensions.

This was stated by the official spokesman for the Palestinian President, Nabil Abu Rudeina, WAFA news agency reported.

According to him, “the tacit decision of the Israeli cabinet to approve the construction of 22 new settlements in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, leads to a dangerous escalation and is a challenge to international law and international justice.“

Abu Rudeina stressed that “the decision of the Israeli authorities violates all international resolutions and laws, in particular UN Security Council Resolution 2334, according to which all settlement activity in the Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, is considered illegal under international law“. He stated that the Israeli government must stop the destabilization of the situation in the West Bank and the aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.

The presidential spokesman called on the US authorities “to intervene immediately and seriously to stop Israeli subversive actions against the entire region before it is too late“. Washington, he said, must “force Israel to comply with international law and stop the war in all Palestinian territories in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem“.
