Today, Serbian students will protest in 32 cities in the country from 19:00 to 22:16 Bulgarian time, BTA reported. They will block the Brankov Bridge and the Gazela Bridge over the Sava River in Belgrade, Serbian media reported.

This was announced yesterday on social networks by the protesting students.

The protest, raising the slogan “We want elections“ was initially announced only in Požarevac, eastern Serbia, but student and civic organizations elsewhere decided to organize protests on the same day or postpone them until tomorrow and thus join the collective actions throughout Serbia, En1 TV reports.

A protest was held in Belgrade yesterday demanding the scheduling of early parliamentary elections.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said that elections would be held when preparations for the international exhibition in Belgrade, Expo2027, are complete.

A wave of protests, led by students, swept Serbia after the collapse of a railway station canopy in the northern Serbian city of Novi Sad on November 1 last year, killing 16 people. According to protesters, the tragedy was caused by corrupt practices that led to poor-quality repairs to the station. They want political and criminal responsibility for what happened, insist on fighting corruption, and that institutions work without political pressure and influence. In early May, the students raised a demand for early parliamentary elections, in which they will support candidates for deputies who have public authority but have not yet participated in the political life of the country.
