Lee Jae-myung is the new president of the Republic of Korea after winning the snap presidential election yesterday.
This morning, the Central Election Commission officially summarized the final results of the vote. After processing 100% of the ballots, Lee Jae-myung, who represented the opposition Toburo Democratic Party, received 49.4% of the vote, while the candidate of the conservative Civic Power Party Kim Moon-soo received 41.1%. The representative of the New Reform Party Lee Jun-seok received 8.3% of the vote. Voter turnout was 79.4%.
The mandate of the new President of the Republic of Korea Lee Jae-myeon began on June 4 at 06:21 local time, the "Jungkang Ilbo" newspaper reported.
The CEC meeting was initially expected to be about an hour later, but the vote count ended earlier than expected.
The current snap election was triggered by the removal of Yoon Suk-yeol from the presidency due to his imposition of martial law last summer.
