Over 14,000 Turks Injured During Eid al-Adha Sacrifices

Health Minister Recalls Animal Slaughter Must Be Performed by Professionals

On the first day of Eid al-Adha celebrations, over 14,000 people sought medical attention in Turkey due to injuries sustained during animal sacrifices.

This was announced by the country's Health Minister Kemal Memisoğlu in X.

A total of 14,372 people sought treatment in hospitals, including 1,049 in Ankara and 753 in Istanbul, the minister wrote. He recalled that in order to avoid such incidents, the slaughter of animals should be carried out by professionals.

Kurban Bayram is celebrated on the 10th day of the month of Zul-Hijjah according to the Muslim lunar calendar (this year it fell on June 6) and marks the end of the Hajj - the Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca. Traditionally, the holiday begins for believers with prayer, after which the ritual of animal sacrifice is performed. This tradition is associated with the story of the prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), to whom the Lord sent a test - to sacrifice his son Ismail. At the last moment, the Almighty, seeing the determination and strength of Ibrahim's faith, ordered him to slaughter a ram.
