London-to-Detroit flight returns to Heathrow due to cracked windshield

Delta Air Lines Flight 017 was carrying 188 passengers and 12 crew members

A passenger plane departing from "Heathrow" airport for the US city of Detroit had to return to London airport due to a cracked windshield, the BBC reported, quoted by BNR.

Delta Air Lines Flight 017 was carrying 188 passengers and 12 crew members on board when the pilot reported the damage shortly after takeoff on Saturday. The crew followed procedure and returned to London's Heathrow Airport, where the plane landed safely a short time later, the airline said.

Some customers were rebooked on later flights, and those who were not able to board were offered meals and hotel rooms, Delta Air Lines said.

The plane, an Airbus A330-200, is undergoing a major inspection and repair, the airline said. No other flights were disrupted as a result of the incident, Heathrow said.
