Iranian news agencies reported that five suspected agents of the Israeli intelligence service Mossad were detained on charges of “defaming the country“ through online activities, AFP reported, quoted by Focus.
“These mercenaries tried to instill fear among the population and damage the reputation of the sacred system of the Islamic Republic of Iran through targeted online activities“, said a statement from the Revolutionary Guard, quoted by the Tasnim and ISNA agencies.
The arrests were made in the western Iranian province of Lorestan.
Meanwhile, on Friday, Iranian authorities announced that they were imposing temporary internet restrictions due to the ongoing conflict. Since then, a number of websites and applications have been partially or completely inaccessible.
