Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said last night that the change or fall of the Iranian leadership is not the goal of the Israeli strikes, but it could become their result, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
„The issue of regime change or its fall is first and foremost a topic for the Iranian people. There is no replacement for it. That is why I do not present this as a goal. "It may be a result, but it is not stated as our official goal," Netanyahu said in an interview with Israeli public television "Kan."
He added that Iran has the ability to eliminate all US nuclear facilities, regardless of whether US President Donald Trump decides to join in or not.
Netanyahu's statement came before the White House said Trump would decide in the next two weeks whether to intervene. Military analysts believe Israel needs powerful US bunker-busting bombs to destroy the underground nuclear fuel enrichment site at Fordow near Qom – according to Reuters, the crown jewel of Iran's nuclear program.
When asked whether he could deal with the Fordow site with or without American help, Netanyahu said: "We have the power to eliminate all of our targets, all of their nuclear facilities, but the president's decision whether he wants to join or not is still his decision. He will do what is good for the United States, and I will do what is good for Israel, and I must say that at the moment everyone is doing their part," Netanyahu said.
On Wednesday, Trump said that only the United States has the capacity to destroy the Fordow site. "But that doesn't mean I will do it at all," Trump said.
