Rescue operation continues

The death toll from the collapse of a residential building in the Pakistani metropolis of Karachi has risen to 21 as rescue teams work for a second day searching for survivors, AFP reported, quoted by dariknews.bg.

Authorities said the building had been declared dangerous and residents had been served eviction notices for three years, but the owners and some residents said they had not received them.

Residents reported hearing cracking sounds shortly before the block collapsed at around 10:00 a.m. on July 4 in the slums of Lyari in Karachi.

The death toll has now reached 21, said Javed Nabi Khoso, a senior district administration official. The rescue operation continues.
