Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari Dies

The 82-year-old politician's last term expired in 2023.

Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has died at the age of 82.

This was announced by the press secretary of the country's former leader, Garba Shehu.

Buhari's family reported his death in a London hospital.

Muhammadu Buhari was head of state from 1983 to 1985, and in 2015 he again became president of the country. He was re-elected in 2019. President Buhari's term ends in 2023.

During the election of his successor that year, the motorcade of former Imo State Governor Ikedi Ohakim was attacked.

At that time, the situation in the southeast of the country was escalating. At least 50 attacks were carried out by members of the indigenous people of Biafra against officials and security forces.
