Russian Ambassador to Moldova: Chisinau broke off relations with Moscow under pressure from the West

We see that the expulsion of Russian diplomats has not led to anything good, Oleg Ozerov said

Moldova broke off relations with Moscow under pressure from the West, which supports the ruling Party of Action and Solidarity in the republic. This opinion was expressed by the Russian Ambassador to Chisinau Oleg Ozerov in an interview with TASS.

„As it seems to me, in many respects the line that the ruling party in Moldova has now adopted is dictated by the pressure that the EU countries, and above all Brussels, are exerting on the Moldovan leadership, based on the principle „who is not with us is against us“. As if this will guarantee prosperity. However, if we look at the statistics, it is completely different“, the diplomat said.

“We see that the expulsion of Russian diplomats has not led to anything good. Moreover, there is no reason for these actions. Things have worsened for both Russian and Moldovan diplomats. The whole set of measures taken by the Moldovan leadership – as we believe, largely under pressure from Brussels, NATO countries – has significantly complicated our bilateral relations“, he noted.

Mutual understanding between the two countries began to deteriorate after pro-European forces came to power in Moldova in 2021. In 2023, dozens of diplomats were expelled from the country. Contacts at the government level practically ceased. The opposition sharply criticized this policy of the pro-Western government in Chisinau.
