An electrical cable was damaged and a fire broke out in a railway station building in Russia's Volgograd region after a Ukrainian drone attack, the regional administration said, quoted by Reuters, BTA reports.

According to information published on the “Telegram“ application, an unexploded drone fell on the railway tracks near the Archeda station. The administration added that there was no evidence of damage to the tracks.

The Russian state news agency TASS reported that several trains in the area were running late as a result of the incident.

Flights from the regional airport in Volgograd, the administrative center of the region of the same name, were temporarily suspended, but according to data from the Russian Civil Aviation Administration published on “Telegram“, operations were restored around 06:00 local time (coinciding with Bulgarian time).

The full scale of the attack remains unclear, but according to regional governor Andrey Bocharov, it was “massive” and targeting energy and transport infrastructure.

Reuters said it could not independently verify the reports.

There was no immediate comment from Ukraine, which has often claimed responsibility for attacks on Russian infrastructure, viewing it as an important part of Moscow's military operations. Volgograd Oblast is located not far from the Ukrainian border and has been the target of similar attacks in the past.
