The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that Russia is probably now more inclined to a ceasefire. He announced this during his evening video address, after a conversation with US President Donald Trump, UNIAN reports, quoted by Focus.

"On the way to our brigades here, in the Sumy region, I talked with President Trump. This conversation took place after the visit of the representative of the US President, Steve Witkoff, to Moscow. Our common position with our partners is absolutely specific and transparent - the war must end. The war must be ended honestly“, Zelensky declared.

The Ukrainian president noted that judging by what was said in Moscow, Russia is now more inclined to a ceasefire.

"The pressure on them is working. The main thing is that they are no longer deceiving us in the details. Neither us nor the United States“, he added.

Zelensky added in his statement that a large part of the European leaders from the 'Coalition of the Willing', as well as representatives of Washington, had also joined the telephone conversation with Trump. The conversation was attended by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, as well as US Vice President JD Vance, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Trump's special representative Steve Witkoff.

Ceasefire negotiations

We recall that on July 23, the third round of negotiations between the delegations of Ukraine and Russia was held in Turkey. The head of the Russian delegation, Volodymyr Medinsky, said then that Moscow had suggested that Kiev consider declaring a “short truce” on the front line to collect the wounded and the bodies of the fighters.

Medinsky also said that all agreements reached on humanitarian issues during the second round of talks in Istanbul had been implemented.

For his part, Zelensky continues to insist that any weapons provided by the United States could force Russian President Vladimir Putin to the negotiating table. He emphasizes the importance of continuing to provide support to Ukraine.
