The next summit between the United States and Russia could lead to a ceasefire or even lasting peace in Ukraine, a Fox News journalist reported, citing a source close to Donald Trump who is aboard the presidential plane.

“There is great optimism that the second meeting will allow us to finish the job“, the source said, noting that the “finish line“ refers to “a ceasefire and, ideally, a sustainable peace in Ukraine“.

However, it was not specified who, besides the leaders, could participate in the potential meeting, nor where and when it could take place.

White House Communications Director and Assistant to the US President Stephen Chung denied Fox News reports that talks between Russian and US President Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump were unsuccessful.

“Completely false“, he wrote on the social network X. Earlier, Fox News journalist Jackie Heinrich said on the channel that “the atmosphere in the negotiation room was not pleasant“ and “it seemed like everything was going wrong“. At the same time, she admitted that she did not see “frowning“ among the members of the American delegation, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Trump's special envoy Stephen Witkoff.

The New York Times believes that “for Putin, the meeting ended with some victories“.““He visited the United States and not just like that, but at a military base, was warmly welcomed by Trump and another postponement of secondary sanctions against Russia was achieved“, the newspaper writes.

The Wall Street Journal notes that “the eyes of the world were on Presidents Trump and Putin, who held a very important meeting in Alaska to discuss ending the war in Ukraine“.

As the Axios portal emphasizes, “Trump, at least publicly, concluded that the meeting was a success“. “But he made no specific statements about what had been achieved“, the online publication emphasizes.

The Hill also draws attention to the fact that Trump reported “progress on key points“, without specifying what they were “and what differences remain regarding the settlement in Ukraine“.

Bloomberg notes that the press conference “followed the longest face-to-face meeting between the two leaders“. “Despite their lengthy talks, neither leader provided clear details of the discussions or indicated whether the parties had found common ground, a situation that is likely to heighten concerns in European capitals and Kiev about a deal that sets aside their contributions“, the agency concludes.
