Russia will continue to supply oil to India, and the country's President Vladimir Putin will meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi by the end of the year, a Russian embassy official in India said on Wednesday, quoted by "Reuters".

Russia has a "very, very special mechanism" to continue oil supplies to India, Roman Babushkin, acting head of Russia's embassy in India, told reporters at a press conference, adding that India's crude oil imports from Russia would remain at the same level.

He added that no dates had yet been finalized for the meeting between Putin and Modi.

The United States will impose an additional 25% tariff on Indian exports on August 28, citing Russian oil imports that have increased after Western countries sanctioned Russian supplies following the country's invasion of Ukraine.

However, the United States has refrained from imposing similar tariffs on China, despite its purchases of Russian oil.

Last month, the European Union sanctioned Russian-backed Indian refinery Nayara Energy, prompting the refinery to reduce its processing and companies to limit their trade with them.

Trade between India and Russia is expected to grow by 10% annually, Yevgeny Griva, Russia's deputy trade representative in India, told a briefing.
