Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic presented a new package of economic measures, promised last week, at the Palace of Serbia, RTS reported. The main goal is to reduce the “pressure of hyperinflation“, News.bg reports.
The state will reduce prices by about 15% for nearly 3,000 products from 23 different groups. Discounts on electricity are planned for the poorest citizens. In addition, bailiffs will no longer be able to confiscate properties up to 60 sq m.
The measures will be in effect for at least six months for commercial markups and at least one year for loans and interest rates. "We will soon present a major problem facing Serbia and we will attack it," Vucic said.
The president stressed that unlike previous initiatives, this time there would be no room for abuse by the rich. "We have figured out how to introduce real, long-term and short-term measures to ensure a better standard of living for citizens and better conditions for producers, as well as to reduce the pressure of hyperinflation," he said.
Meanwhile, anti-government protests continue in the country, accompanied by accusations of police violence against demonstrators. Vucic said that the anti-blockade rallies had passed peacefully and disputed criticism about the number of participants. According to him, the real number was even higher than the announced 70,000 people.
