German Foreign Minister Johann Wadeful begins his visit to India today, with economic issues high on the agenda amid new US tariffs on goods from India, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.

The foreign minister begins his two-day visit from the southern city of Bengaluru, where economic opportunities are likely to be the focus – from scientific research to skilled labor immigration.

Tomorrow, Vaddeful is expected to hold political talks in Delhi to discuss China-Russia relations.

A German Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said that India, as the world's largest democratically governed country, is an indispensable partner for Germany and a driver of global innovation and growth.

“India's growth and its innovation dynamism offer great potential for diversifying trade relations and supply chains, for technology cooperation and for recruiting well-trained and skilled workers,“ she said.

Vaddeful arrives in India after the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in the Chinese city of Tianjin on August 31, which was attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and 18 other leaders.

Founded 24 years ago with the idea of promoting cooperation in the field of security and economic relations, the SCO is positioned as a counterweight to Western alliances, including NATO, although it may acquire greater importance in the field of economics, DPA notes.
