Boy opens fire with gun at high school in Denver suburb, wounds two and shoots himself

The injured and the attacker were taken to hospital

A boy fired a gun at a high school in a suburb of Denver, Colorado, injuring two teenagers before turning the gun on himself, local authorities reported, quoted by the Associated Press and BTA.

A report of the shooting was received around 12:30 p.m. (local time) at “Evergreen” High School in Evergreen, Colorado, about 30 miles west of Denver.

The shots were fired both inside and outside the school building, and officers who arrived at the scene located the shooter within five minutes, said Jefferson County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Jackie Kelly.

None of the officers who arrived at the scene fired any shots, Kelly added.

More than 100 area police officers rushed to the school to help, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman said.

In 1999, the Columbine High School shooting in Jefferson County killed 14 people, the AP recalls.

The three Evergreen teenagers were taken to a hospital and were initially admitted in critical condition. Their ages were not reported.

By evening, one of them was in stable condition.

The high school has more than 900 students.
