The authorities of Kazakhstan and Great Britain are interested in expanding trade and investment cooperation. This was announced by the Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Murat Nurtleu after negotiations in Astana with the head of the British Foreign Ministry David Cameron.
„Without a doubt, the basis of our bilateral cooperation is trade-economic and investment ties. In this context, we confirmed our common desire to further expand relations and support mutually beneficial projects and initiatives, Nurtleu said.
According to him, last year the bilateral trade turnover amounted to 1.2 billion dollars, in the last twenty years the volume of direct British investments reached 17 billion dollars “Last year, investments from Great Britain in the Kazakh economy grew by 20 % and amounted to $795 million. Currently, about 600 enterprises created with the participation of British business capital contribute to the development of the country. Among them are the famous companies Shell, RioTinto, Ernst and Young, AstraZeneca, etc. However, there is an opinion that our potential in the economic sphere is still not fully used”, explained the head of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry, noting that it is necessary to increase the pace of interaction.
„Given the recently adopted London Minerals Roadmap, we have looked at the possibility of implementing advanced projects in the field of important raw materials, the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Corridor and green energy,” Nurtleu said.
