Canada begins exporting liquefied natural gas - 1

Canada's first liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal has begun exporting liquefied natural gas, Shell, a shareholder in the LNG Canada project, announced.

The first batch of liquefied natural gas (LNG) has left the country's west coast plant for Asia, according to a statement on the project's website. The plant will export liquefied natural gas in two trains with a combined capacity of 14 million tonnes per year. Each project participant will independently provide for the delivery of its share of liquefied natural gas and its sale.

LNG Canada continues to explore the possibility of expanding the second phase of the project, which includes the construction of two more trains and increasing the total capacity of the plant to 28 million tonnes per year.

LNG Canada is the first liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in Canada, located in the Pacific province of British Columbia. The project participants are Shell (40%), Petronas (25%), PetroChina (15%), Mitsubishi (15%) and Korea Gas Corporation (KOGAS, 5%).
