The tourist industry in Greece insists on limiting cruise ships to a few islands, BNR reported. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis promised to introduce the measure from next year.

The islands cannot accommodate and serve all tourists from cruise ships, business representatives from Santorini and Mykonos - the most visited destinations - comment.

Starting next year, restrictions will be imposed on cruise ships that dock at these islands, Prime Minister Mitsotakis said in an interview.

There are two options - either limit the number of ship berths or apply bidding for the slots. In both cases, there will be no economic damage to the tourist business, commented the Prime Minister.

Last year's revenue from cruise tourism was 848 million euros, or twice as much as the previous year.

However, oversaturation with tourists does not allow high quality of service and has a negative impact on the environment.

At the same time, tourism specialists comment that all foreigners who come on holiday should be aware of the risks of climate change, which last year caused fires and floods.

High temperatures and ignorance of the reaction in such cases are the reason for the deterioration of the health of many vacationers, doctors said.
