The Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, called today for Europe's energy independence and common defense, reported the Greek publication “Kathimerini”.
„Europe must take bold steps to make the European economy more competitive while strengthening social cohesion. It is time for us, as Europeans, to finally organize our energy independence and start our common defence,” Mitsotakis said in his weekly address on social media.
He added that these topics were discussed at the recent EU Council in Budapest, BTA specifies.
Missotakis congratulated US President-elect Donald Trump on his victory, saying that Greek-American relations transcend party lines.
„The orientation of Greek-American relations is national, not partisan, and given the strong presence of the Greek community in the US, I am confident that relations between our two countries will remain stable and productive under the new Trump presidency,” Mitsotakis pointed out.
Over the past week, key European leaders such as German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron have emphasized the need for enhanced European defense cooperation.
