French President Emmanuel Macron called cryptocurrencies one of the destabilizing factors for the world economy. He stated this at the summit of the Group of Twenty (G20) in Brazil, broadcast by the press office of the Elysée Palace.
„Financial stability is one of the priority issues for the G20 and I believe that today we must fully take into account the existing threats of instability. I think we take too little into account in our international discussions the risks of destabilization of cryptocurrencies and the assets that are now called digital assets. Strictly speaking, there is no regulatory system here. This has very serious consequences for the stability of our economies”, Macron said.
The head of state also touched on the issue of stability in the security sphere. According to him, the world is experiencing an “unprecedented period of arms proliferation”, particularly conventional weapons, due to events in Ukraine and the Middle East. Macron also mentioned the “potential proliferation of nuclear weapons”, pointing out that some countries are close to acquiring nuclear weapons. He believes that this factor poses risks of escalation and may lead to consequences for all parties involved.
