More Bulgarians with over 1 million on deposit in the bank, the BNB reported. At the end of September, millionaires in our country increased by 402 in one year and by 89 in just three months, with their number now at 2,061, and they have over 4.9 billion leva in their accounts, reports pariteni.bg. Deposits with amounts from 500,000 to 1 million leva are also up by 858 per year, and in the last three months they have increased by 312, and there are already 4,433 such accounts.
Deposits with amounts from 200,000 to 500,000 leva are also growing seriously and reach 31,638, and their number has increased by over 25% or 6,373 per year. It is noticeable that almost all deposits are growing, except for the smallest ones - up to 1,000 leva and from 1,000 to 2,500 leva, as the decrease in them is minimal - 2% and 0.7% per year, respectively. There are over 4.634 million deposits up to 1,000 leva, and up to 2,500 - over 966 thousand deposits. The data confirm the trend of depositing cash in banks to be automatically exchanged for euros on January 1 next year, when our country will officially adopt the single European currency. Companies are also increasing their money on deposit in banks, with those over 1 million leva growing by 1,024 per year, reaching 7,460. Companies have increased all types of deposits, both large and small amounts.
The number of credit millionaires in our country has increased by 63% per year, with 472 households taking out such loans, or 183 more in one year. Household loans in the amount of 500,000 to 1 million leva have increased by nearly 70 percent per year, with 4,504 such loans. These are loans that are most often taken out to purchase property or a luxury car. However, small consumer loans, which are usually used to cover utility bills, are decreasing.
Total deposits of Non-Financial Enterprises, Financial Enterprises and Households at the end of the third quarter of 2025 increased by 1.4% on an annual basis, and their total amount - by 13.2%.
Businesses hold 659 thousand deposits in banks, reporting a growth of 4.6% compared to the end of the same month in 2024. At the end of the third quarter of 2025, the amount of these deposits was BGN 51.123 billion, increasing by 12.9% on an annual basis. Compared to the end of June 2025, their number increased by 0.7%, and their amount - by by 8.9%. The three sectors with the largest shares in the total amount of deposits for the sector are Trade (25.2%), Manufacturing (13.4%) and Construction (9.3%). By the end of September 2025, the total amount of deposits was dominated by those with an amount of over 1 million leva with a share of 60.9%.
The number of deposits in the Households and NPISH sector was 9.037 million, increasing by 1.2% on an annual basis. The amount of these deposits at the end of September 2025 increased by 13.1% on an annual basis and reached 96.272 billion leva. At the end of September 2025, compared to the end of the previous quarter, the number of these deposits increased by 0.2%, and their amount – by 3.4%. By the end of September 2025, the total amount of deposits was dominated by those with an amount of over 50 thousand to 100 thousand leva, with a share of 19.5%.
The number of loans to the Non-financial Enterprises, Financial Enterprises and Households and NPISH sectors by the end of the third quarter of 2025 increased by 1.4% on an annual basis, and their total amount - by 14.9%. Loans to the Non-financial Enterprises sector at the end of the third quarter of 2025 were 159 thousand, increasing by 8.7% on an annual basis. The amount of these loans was 51.794 billion leva, reporting an increase of 9.4% on an annual basis. Compared to the end of the previous quarter, the number of loans to the Non-financial Enterprises sector increased by 0.8%, and their amount - by 1.9%. The three sectors with the largest shares in the total amount of loans for the sector are Trade (26.1%), Manufacturing (21%) and Real estate operations (11.7%). By the end of September 2025, the total amount of loans was dominated by those with an amount of over 1 million leva, with a share of 76.1%.
The number of loans in the Households sector increased by 1% on an annual basis, reaching 2.897 million. Their size increased by 20.9% on an annual basis, reaching 53.675 billion leva. At the end of September 2025, compared to the end of June 2025, the number of these loans increased by 0.3%, and their size increased by 5.2%. By the end of September 2025, the total amount of loans was dominated by those with an amount of over 100 thousand to 250 thousand leva, with a share of 27.7%.
