Prof. Damyanov: The common thing about people is that they all need God - 1

People, no matter where and what they are, have some common patterns. One of them is the need for God. This was said in the program “The Day Live” on NOVA NEWS by Prof. Marin Damyanov - writer and screenwriter.

“Christian holidays are probably much more ancient than we think”, shared the writer and explained that they originate from pagan customs, but Christianity has placed the most important dates related to Christ on them. “In this way, the pagan holidays were seized”.

According to him, Christ is an extremely important figure in human civilization. “In Islam, he can also be found, but there he is an ordinary prophet, not the son of God”.

“Before Christianity, civilization was only interested in strength, cruelty, the ability to crush others. Suddenly, a man comes along who says that we should be better people. He proves it. He talks a lot about love”, commented Prof. Damyanov.

According to him, people asked Christ to describe his idea, and he did it in a very ordinary way. “He was not like a modern scientist who would declare that the theory is very complicated and we should come to his lectures regularly so that there is some chance in 1-2 years to understand it. Christ says it's simple - love your neighbor as yourself, love the world, love the vast and inexplicable that is above us”.

“People, no matter where and what they are, have some common patterns. One of them is the need for God. Between him and man there is an intermediate figure, an intermediary - this is the hero who saves us. He sacrifices himself to save us. This is a deep emotion, for some it is stronger, for others - weaker. Christ fits 100% into it. If we have to describe a psychological characteristic of the savior, the image of Christ is obtained”, said Prof. Damyanov.

According to him, currently no one teaches people much about good and evil. “This does not mean that it is alien to them. Both good and evil are around and in us. Everyone has their own idea of them”.

“The interesting thing is that for thousands of years the Church has mainly dealt with the topic of good and evil, of God, the meaning of life, death. However, it has largely moved away. It does not affect all people in this way”, he believes.

Prof. Damyanov is of the opinion that young people nowadays think less and less about Christ himself. “For many years, Christian nations were dominant in the world, apparently they received some energy then. But maybe that is changing”.

“In general, people do not deal much with Christ. Neither does cinema. The problem is that if the film is completely realistic and Christ is shown as a living person, it will not be canonical. According to religion, Christ does not have a dark side. Every person has one, but he does not. That is, we cannot show in a film that he is a person like us. The church will immediately jump”, he explained.

“But if he is shown canonically, completely bright, without weaknesses and dark sides, then the viewer cannot identify with him much. The viewer feels that this is not in our world. The image of the hero necessarily requires 7-8 qualities, of which the most important is that he makes a sacrifice for others - not for himself, not for money, not for his family, not for a career, but for people”, added Prof. Damyanov.
