„The first days, three days of Holy Week are strict fasting. Then we empathize with various gospel events that point us to the death, burial and resurrection of the Savior. And already Maundy Thursday, Maundy Friday, are the culmination of these commemorative, so to speak, events in which we experience the sufferings of Christ in a real and true way.“
This is what theologian Angel Karadakov told Euronews Bulgaria.
„We know that on Maundy Thursday in the morning the holy Basilian liturgy is celebrated, which, since the sacrament of the Eucharist was instituted at the Last Supper, accordingly on this day Orthodox Christians have the opportunity to receive communion with the body and blood of Christ again and so become real participants in the Last Supper of the Saviour”, he pointed out.
„Passing under the shroud is more of a ritual than a church-recognized action. Yes, it is a pious tradition of Orthodox Christians, but we incorrectly say passing under the table. It is proper to say prostration or worship in front of the shroud”, noted the theologian.
We do a lot of things for health, but we can get health when we do things in the church the right way, ie. to fast, confess and receive communion. This is the way. All the other actions that we have, which are in some way connected with some superstitions or such other beliefs, rather divert us from the faith”, emphasized Karadakov.
