Co-chairman of “Democratic Bulgaria“ Atanas Atanasov with the first comment after the elections 2 in 1. In a post on Facebook, he stated that “We continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria” remains the only pro-European opposition political force in the 50th National Assembly.
„For my part, I will ask for a vote of confidence from our members and sympathizers and I will count on a frank dialogue that will point the way forward”, explained Atanasov.
In his words, despite the mistakes, they have achieved a definite success - a consolidation of the democratic community, which has no analogue for the last 2 decades.
„This consolidation must continue with the attraction of new partners from the political and civil sectors. We will persistently continue to work for the transformation of Bulgaria into a rich and prosperous country with reformed institutions that serve the interests of citizens and society, explained the MP.
„Living in a highly confrontational moment, of severe division in Bulgarian society, we failed in the process of satisfying the expectations of our own voters regarding the permissibility of the compromise that had to be made. We ourselves created high expectations, helped them to be highly emotionally charged, and subsequently did not sufficiently explain our actions, to which reality itself and the desire to move Bulgaria forward led us. In this negative environment, the undoubted successes of the “Denkov” - the Schengen membership, which according to the pre-accession process of our integration into the EU, should have happened already in 2009, the changes in the Constitution, which were strongly criticized, but the real assessment of them came from the European Commission with the dropping of the Cooperation Mechanism and verification, the successes in the economic and social spheres - because the numbers do not lie and quite clearly show that for the last three years our country has developed faster than for the previous 12. The strength of our community has always been in the honest dialogue with our voters. We allowed it to be violated and the consequences were not too late, he explained.
