Milen Ljubenov: Without pre-agreed support for a majority, the chances of the first term are very small - 1

Without pre-agreed support for a majority, the chances of passing the first term are very small. The immediate return of the mandate completely surprised me, not least because in the last two or three weeks we have not seen any real talks about forming a government. This was commented on the air of Nova News by the political scientist Assoc. Milen Ljubenov, quoted by novini.bg.

He noted that the only unknown is with “Majesty”, as it is an unpredictable party and it will not be clear until the end how it will vote for the draft cabinet of GERB.
During the interview, through a telephone connection, the mathematician Prof. Mihail Konstantinov also joined the conversation, who made an analogy with the elections in 2009, when GERB got 116 deputies into the parliament and then only 5-6 people fell short for a full majority.

However, then there was a party “Order, legality and justice“ of Yane Yanev, who provided them with deputies and Borisov served almost a full term. The analogy is obvious. We are seeing the same thing right now. Now there are ten people in the National Assembly who will not enter the parliament in new elections, and they know it and would support the GERB cabinet. This coincidence of things is not accidental, Prof. Konstantinov pointed out.
Milen Lyubenov, however, differed from the mathematician's opinion, recalling that then GERB had 116 deputies, while now there are 68. He also believes that it is not correct that GERB and DPS should be considered as a common coalition, despite the opposition's claims .

„These are two different and competing parties and we can see that very soon. Plus, I'm not sure how DPS will react to this draft cabinet composition. The main goal of the DPS was to enter power through the front door and negotiate a coalition. However, GERB fears that such a coalition will bring electoral damage and avoids it, explained Assoc. Lyubenov.

According to the political scientist, people want to see a strong government with clear priorities, which is willing to make bold reforms to improve life in the country and above all the sense of justice. p>

According to him, in any parliamentary democracy, parties are the driving instruments for making policies, but in Bulgaria they have serious reputational problems.

Without some kind of internal transformation in these parties, I don't think that the political process will soon be cleared in order to achieve some kind of stabilization, Assoc. Lyubenov said in conclusion.
