The Greek coast guard has rescued six Bulgarians from a sinking boat off the Greek island of Lefkada, according to a statement from the coast guard published on their official website.

Yesterday (September 11) at noon, the captain of the ship LASKA T.P. 480 has notified the Port Authority of Lefkada that a ship sailing under the Greek flag with six passengers, Bulgarian citizens, is in difficulty in the area of Kastos in Lefkada.

A NEMO 17 patrol boat and a private diver immediately headed to the site. Passengers were first disembarked from LASKA and then NEMO 17 and transferred safely to a floating platform at Mitikas Steamer, Attica, Etoloakarnania.

The vessel (LASKA T.P. 480) sank and was found by a diver at a depth of about 15 meters. It was subsequently floated to a depth of 5 meters and moored to a floating platform in the Sarakiniko area of Kastos with the help of Nemo 17, with efforts to recover it under the care of its owner pending.
