A former head of the Traffic Police-Sofia warned: Accidents become more frequent in October, November and December - 1

„In October, November and December, traffic accidents become more frequent. Visibility decreases. Drivers must change their behavior on the road and reduce speed to see pedestrians.

This is what the former head of Sofia Traffic Police Alexi Kesyakov recommended in the show “Tvoyat den” on NOVA NEWS.

According to him, statistics is not an abstract concept. It is the result of the main factors that determine traffic on the roads.

Bulgaria ranks first in the European Union in terms of the number of road deaths per million people, followed by Romania (82 and 81 deaths, respectively). In 2023, the average road death rate in the EU is 46 deaths per million inhabitants. Norway has the fewest deaths, followed by Sweden.

According to Vladimir Todorov from the Bulgarian Association of Accident Victims, Bulgaria and Romania have been in the negative ranking for 6-7 years. In the last five there is a slight decrease in the number of victims, but this should not reassure us. According to him, the behavior of drivers changes after the sanctions are increased.

"We operate under inefficient, outdated rules. There is a lack of cameras and collection of fines, Todorov added.
