We must now demand a convergence report on entering the eurozone. This should have happened in the summer of 2021, as well as in each of the years after 2009. Our failure to enter is shamefully 20 years late. This was said in the studio of "Offensive with Lyubo Ognyanov" by former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Nikolay Vassilev.
"Assen Vassilev is to blame for the delay in entering the eurozone in recent years. His budget policies have distanced us from it", he added.
According to him, the last 4 years in financial terms have been full of mischief for Bulgaria. "The next budget should not have a deficit and should spend below 40% of GDP - like in the years of normality before Assen Vassilev. I would also like direct taxes not to be raised, and the topic of differentiated VAT rates to be closed - they are meaningless. We should have budget surpluses. Cuts should be made almost everywhere - for example, from the bloated public sector and administration, as well as from electricity subsidies, as well as for everything else. It should not be taken from the defense budget", Vassilev believes.
According to him, the new government is the only possible management configuration. "It coincided with Borisov's request for his desired partners. GERB spent months in talks with the DB. No new "assembly" happened, so they moved on to the others - so that we don't have to go to elections 150 times, better that. Seven early parliamentary elections are ominous. Better a regular government than hate, to be fair, but always in failure. The new cabinet is accompanied by pointless disputes and personal attacks," commented the economist.
